Sarah Bardwell is a graduate of the University of California, San Diego, with a Bachelor's degree in Literature, majoring in Writing. She spent six months living in Florence, Italy, as a student of photography, writing, and Italian Literature.
Sarah is currently working as a freelance photographer along the California-Oregon coast. Her portfolio includes macro, travel, scenic, portrait, wedding, small-business portfolio, and action photography. Prior to freelancing, Sarah worked for the Red Bluff Daily News as a general assignment reporter and photographer, writing both feature and hard news stories while documenting those stories with her own accompanying photography.
In March, 2003, she was awarded a Sierra Club 2003 California Nature Photography Contest honorable mention for her photograph, "Sunrise," currently on exhibit at four Bay Area galleries. In May, 2002, she was awarded the California Newspaper Publisher's Association Spot News Photography Award for her photograph, "Chimney of Fire."
Her past experience includes more than one year as a staff writer for the fledgling Peace Corp. publication, Jaguarundi, an endangered species publication that seeks to help educate Peace Corp. volunteers about the countries with which they are involved.
Sarah also spent two years as both an intern and a stringer with the La Jolla Light, writing feature news stories for the weekly publication, photographing, and working as the Home and Garden editor. She then spent four months writing feature stories for the San Diego Union-Tribune as an intern in the Travel Department. Her time there cummulated in a front-page autobiographical travel feature on surf divas along the San Diego coast.
